A RESCUE team hauled a man to safety after he broke his leg in a fall down a steep bank yesterday.
Leslie Williams, 48, of Seaham, County Durham, had been walking with his seven-year-old nephew near Seaham Hall when he slipped and fell.
Passers-by raised the alarm and a fire brigade's line rescue team, from Peterlee, pulled him to safety before he was treated by paramedics.
Mr Williams was taken to Sunderland Royal Hospital. The whole operation took about 45 minutes.
Station officer Dave Turnbull attended the scene. He said: "He had slipped on some plants and had broken his lower right leg. Luckily that is a well-worn path and passers-by spotted him and got help quite quickly. Otherwise I'm sure Mr Williams' nephew would have raised the alarm."
