ELSIE Widgery reckons hard work is the secret of a long life - and she should know.
She celebrated her 100th birthday surrounded by her friends at the Oaklands Country Rest Home at Green Hammerton, near York.
Birthday wishes poured in from friends elsewhere - including New Zealand - as well as the traditional telegram from the Queen.
"It was very nice indeed. I got plenty of cards and flowers and they were all beautiful," said Mrs Widgery.
Before moving into the home, Mrs Widgery lived in Acomb, York, but originally hails from Golders Green, in London.
