POLICE are investigating a possible burglary at the house where a retired hairdresser was found dead.
But they insist there were no suspicious circumstances surrounding the death of Linda Allen, 79, at her home in Wheler Street, Houghton-le-Spring, Wearside, on Monday night.
Police were alerted after an anonymous call from a phone box half-a-mile away, at about 2.45am.
Detectives have yet to reveal the cause of the death, but say it is not suspicious.
Broken glass was found in Ms Allen's home and police are investigating the possibility of a burglary as a separate matter.
Detectives have appealed for the man who made the phone call to come forward.
Anyone with any information is asked to contact 0191-454 7555.
