A PROGRAMME of activities aimed at reducing crime in east Gateshead will be launched this weekend.
Gateshead youth offending team (Yot) has received £4,000 from the Youth Justice Board for its Splash! project.
It aims to involve youngsters in activities during the Easter holidays - traditionally a time when police see an increase in complaints about young people, and an increase in youth crime.
A range of activities will be offered, including sports, computing, and a graffiti art project.
Young people will also be offered a taste of adventure with trips to the Warden Law Motorsport Centre for karting, and Lightwater Valley for white knuckle riding.
The scheme will be based in Springwell and Wrekenton. All activities will be free of charge.
