MORE than 6,000 people throughout Redcar and Cleveland will be able to enjoy extra travel benefits thanks to a new Government scheme.
The Government's Concessionary Travel Scheme offers a free bus pass and half fare travel to men over 65, women over 60 and people with disabilities.
The borough council also offers a scheme where people can buy a bus pass for £12 and then travel on the bus for just 30p. There are currently 14,000 people in the borough enjoying this scheme.
Coun Sylvia Szintai, lead member for environment and infrastructure on Redcar and Cleveland Borough Council, said: "Everyone will be able to choose which scheme to go for. If you only travel short distances, you may find that the free scheme, and half fare, is the best value for you. If you regularly travel longer distances you may find the council scheme offers the best value."
The extension for renewing the council passes has been extended to the end of May and people in the Marske area will be able to renew their passes at the cricket club pavilion in the town. Full details of renewal sessions should be available soon.
