CAMPAIGNERS will be asking members of the public to back their calls for regional government for the North-East tomorrow.
Following successful visits to Alnwick, Sedgefield, Hexham and Consett, the Campaign for a North-East Assembly (CNA) will be in Newcastle city centre.
Volunteers will be handing out leaflets and asking people to sign a petition calling for political parties to commit themselves to a referendum. They will also carry out street surveys, asking people for their views on devolution.
Brian Hall, CNA coordinator, said: "We have had an excellent response from the public so far and many people are backing the campaign calling for a new and powerful voice for the region.
"Our survey work has established that many North-Easterners want to see a democratically elected assembly which can represent our region on the national and international stage and introduce a new form of open, devolved government to the area."
