A NEW taxibus service is helping to give villagers the run-around.
The hail-and-ride shuttle service for Lanchester operates on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays, between 10am and 1pm.
All rides cost 40p and people can get on and off where they wish.
The service was funded by West Durham Rural Transport Small Transport Project Fund, (STPF) Durham County Council and Derwentside District Council.
Katie Wellstead, West Durham's Rural Transport Partnership officer, said: "The loop service around the village will take about 30 minutes.
"People from outlying estates will be able to get to the village centre and connect with other main bus services."
Community groups can apply to the STPF for up to £1,000 towards sustainable transport costs.
It is part of a national initiative administered by the Countryside Agency to help address the local transport needs of rural communities.
Leaflets about the Lanchester taxibus service are available from the village library and post office
