THE first green shoots of spring brought out the crowds at the North-East's first major garden show of the year.
Thousands of people braved wet weather on Saturday to visit Gateshead Spring Flower Show.
The rain led to flooding and the closure of two temporary car parks at Gateshead Borough Council's Central Nursery, at Lobley Hill.
Improved weather attracted an even larger turnout yesterday, with shuttle buses operating from overflow car parks at the MetroCentre and Gateshead Civic Centre.
Organiser Graham Scott said he was "absolutely delighted" with the response, despite the poor weather on the opening day.
He said: "I've been running the show for 11 years and the conditions were the worst I've known. I would like to thank everyone for putting up with the conditions."
The attractions, many under cover, included hundreds of floral exhibits, handicrafts, children's bakery, trade and craft stands, free children's activities, musical entertainment, and a well-stocked food hall.
