SIX candidates have been chosen to train as careers advisors.
Careers service Future Steps has chosen the group out of 300 applicants for the country's first in-house careers advisor training programme.
The intensive nine-month course will culminate in National Vocational Qualifications and give Teesside youngsters access to expert advice.
The development of practical skills to back up the theory will be an essential part of the training, with "buddies" being assigned to equip delegates with the streetwise skills needed for working in Middlesbrough, Redcar and Stockton.
The appointments coincide with Future Steps' development of a Connexions Service for youngsters in the Tees Valley. As its latest recruits, the trainees will learn how their roles will fit in with the changing organisation.
