FOCUSED Micky Barron insists Hartlepool United's players won't be affected by the Football League inqury into Chesterfield's financial affairs.

The runaway Third Division leaders face a three-day investigation at Hillsborough from today, with the possibility of being stripped of promotion if they are found guilty.

But captain Barron insists Pool - who would be the team most likely to benefit if they can stay in fourth position - are staying focused on their own affairs.

Saturday's 2-1 reverse at Southend ended a run of 21 games without defeat as Pool have motored into the promotion frame.

With five games to go Barron - who hopes to be the first Pool captain since Paul Baker ten years ago to taste promotion glory - declared: "All we can do is win as many games as possible and get as many points in the bag.

"We have to look at other teams behind us and we know that some days results will go for us and some days go against us.

"We spoke before Saturday's game about Chesterfield and what might happen.

"We have to get on with our own game and see what happens - then make sure we finish fourth in case it is enough for promotion.

"The run we have just been on was phenomenal and it might be beaten but I think it will stand long after I've died, let alone retired.

"Now we have to start another little run and make sure we make it five games undefeated to end the season.''

Paul Stephenson (virus) and Anth Lormor (groin), who missed Saturday's defeat, are expected to be back in training this morning and should be fit for Saturday's all-ticket encounter with Hull.

Barron will tonight be joined by Tommy Miller, Paul Arnison and Craig Midgley at the Corner Flag from 7.30pm for a talk-in with supporters hosted by BBC Radio Cleveland's Talking Balls presenters Clem and Fish. Admission is £1.

* One man was arrested after police fraud squad officers investigating possible corruption at Chesterfield swooped. Officers from the Derbyshire police fraud unit confirmed they had arrested a man in connection with the investigation into the club.

A spokesman for Derbyshire police said a large number of documents and computer disks had been seized following the arrest. Police completed a separate investigation into allegations of witness intimidation surrounding the joint FA and League enquiry.

The FA and League enquiry was launched in February into alleged irregularities at the club concerning payments to players and attendance figures. Detectives from Derbyshire were later called in by the FA after officials said they had been warned some witnesses had been contacted and threats made.
