UNDERTAKER John Miller was certainly dead lucky when he scooped £5.4m on the Lottery at the weekend.
It was second time lucky for John, 28, who won the Lottery after finding out his wife, Karen, is about to give birth to twins.
He believes the win is down to an act of honesty at his local chip shop earlier last week.
The Gateshead man explained that the shop assistant had given him too much change - so he went back to the shop and gave her the extra back.
"I think our win could be my reward for being so truthful," he said before adding that he called his boss at the Co-operative Funeral Services just hours after the win to inform him he would be leaving work.
John, who has been married for six years, recalled the moment at the weekend when he realised that he had won.
He said: "I was actually upstairs and I heard all this screaming and I thought, 'well, we've got a few numbers'.
"Then I heard Karen screaming for me and I rushed downstairs to see her shaking like a bowl of jelly. We checked the numbers again and again and again before we could believe it.
"Winning the Lottery is an incredible feeling, but it doesn't compare to the moment we knew we were going to have twins."
Karen, 32, who works on the check-out at a Co-op store, is also due to give up her job.
The couple are aiming to buy a new car with their winnings, possibly a Renault Laguna. But they are planning to stay at their home in Gateshead which they bought from the council.
The Millers have secured the 38th highest publicised pay-out since the National Lottery began.
The highest was for more than £22m, and more than 1,145 people have been made millionaires, including three others from the Gateshead area.
