A SCHOOL extension was opened by its youngest pupil yesterday.
One-month-old Georgia Postgate was helped by her mother, Debra, to cut the ribbon for an extension to St Joseph's RC Primary School, in Rosecroft Lane, Loftus. The extension was established thanks to the Sure Start East Cleveland Partnership.
Sure Start is aimed at giving youngsters aged up to fours years old in deprived areas the best possible start in life.
The ribbon-cutting started an afternoon of fun and games, including face painting, healthy food information, a celebration cake and a visit from Sure Start's mascot, Percy the Parrot.
An exhibition of art work by the children was also unveiled.
And throughout the week there will be a variety of activities taking place to celebrate the new Sure Start room.
Later this month, Sure Start rooms will also be opening at Hummersea Primary School and Harry Dack Infants School.
Sure Start manager Julie Conner said: "The new rooms will make a big difference.
"What goes on in them will be up to the parents themselves. It could be a base for parenting courses, maybe a mother and baby group. We are open to suggestions."
To help in that process, a feedback meeting has been arranged on Thursday, at 3pm, for parents at St Joseph's to have their say on ideas for the future running of the room
