A COUNCILLOR is pressing for improvements to help wheelchair users.
Councillor Gerald Lee, who represents Heighington near Darlington, is concerned about the number of raised kerbs and obstacles faced by the disabled and elderly in the village.
He has asked for volunteers to help plot the obstacles so that the information can be passed on to Darlington Borough Council, so that it can consider creating wheelchair friendly routes.
Coun Lee said: "Those who have tried to push someone in a wheelchair through the village will know it is not easy. Even the young find the hills and large kerbs extremely difficult to negotiate with a child's pram or pushchair, so to the more elderly residents, our village centre can be off-limits."
