RATE reductions are being offered to businesses in part of the region unaffected by the foot-and-mouth epidemic.
The area covered by Redcar and Cleveland Borough Council is one of the few areas in the North-East which remains disease-free.
But the council has decided to offer rate reductions for businesses which are struggling for trade as a result of the crisis.
Council leader David Walsh said: "It is plainly obvious that local businesses which rely on passing trade in country areas will have been affected.
"Given these concessions offered, I am urging those businesses to get in touch with the council to see whether they may be eligible."
The council's executive will receive a report on the move at its next meeting.
Businesses wanting more information should contact the council's business rate section on (01642) 444452.
