CARLISLE yesterday recalled Darlington keeper Peter Keen back to Brunton Park - but first-choice stopper Andy Collett is set to return tomorrow against Cardiff City.
Former Newcastle keeper Keen had been on loan at Feethams for a month, during which time he had sampled defeat just once in seven matches, and was hoping his stay would be extended until the end of the season.
However, Carlisle boss Ian Atkins decided to recall him, and may put him in the Cumbrians' first team for their crucial home game with Blackpool.
Carlisle suffered a midweek six-goal mauling at the hands of Rochdale and are currently 21st in Division Three - just three points above the relegation zone.
Darlington assistant manager Mick Tait said: "Carlisle wanted him back for their game on Saturday. Fortunately, both our keepers are back in training now after injury.
"At the moment, Andy is in pole position to return to the side. He had the plaster removed from his hand earlier in the week, and he's back intraining. His shot stopping and handling is fine.
"Frank Van Der Geest is also back in training, but we're worried that his back injury might recur."
While the goalkeeping position appears to be solved, there could be a problem at right-wing back.
Phil Brumwell hasn't trained since Tuesday, while Steve Harper is still suffering the effects of a virus.
Tait said: "Phil has told us that he's coming in for training tomorrow, and that there's a fair chance that he'll be all right.
"Steve has suffered from a relapse, and doesn't look as if he'll be fit for Saturday."
Meanwhile, Brian Atkinson successfully came through his comeback match from injury at Scunthorpe on Wednesday night, and Tait said: "Brian played for an hour, and did well."
"He hasn't suffered any reaction, but he isn't ready for the first team yet. He'll probably have another reserve game next week."
However, striker Kirk Jackson will now probably only have four first team games to make an impact this season, after being sent off during the reserves 2-1 midweek loss to the Irons for retaliation.
Tait said: "Kirk was pushed to the ground and kicked, but the referee only saw his reaction. The referee didn't even punish the other player."
Jackson will now receive a three-match ban and will miss the away games at Halifax and Mansfield, and the final game of the season at home to Blackpool.
