Tow Law Bass League - JEFF Sneath (Billy Row Club) landed the league's singles championship when he beat teammate, George Dodds in the final at Esh Winning Football Club.

Quarter-finals: Colin Howcroft (Tow Law New Market) beat Keith Brown (Esh FC); George Dodds (Billy Row Club) beat John Parkin (Tow Law New Market); Jeff Sneath (Billy Row Club) beat Darren Yeoman (Tow Law New Market); Colin Boughey (Tow Law Cattle Mart) beat Harold Bowes (Sunniside Comedian).

Semi-finals: Dodds beat Boughey, Sneath beat Howcroft.

The competition proved memorable for Joe Starr of Esh Winning McKennas for he hit his first competitive maximum.

In the final league match of the season Tow Law Rose and Crown came back to take the last two doubles and edge through by the odd point against the visiting Tow Law North Point.

Willington League

League singles championship held at Willington Burn, quarter-final results: Lenny Glasper (Willington Commercial) walk over, Kevin Hill (Willington Lion and Unicorn), John Mason (Hunwick Joiners Arms) beat Paul Allchurch (Willington Commercial), Shaun Parkinson (Willington Black Horse Inn) beat Ian Breen (Willington Burn), Alan Richardson (Willington Brewer's Droop) beat Colin Davidson (Willington Burn).

Semi-finals: Richardson beat Parkinson, Mason overcame Glasper.

The final will be played as part of finals night at the Victoria Club on Monday, May 14.

Cleveland County

Cleveland's promotion hopes suffered a blow when they lost against Montgomery and Radnor, the match played at Welshpool. Cleveland started with an 18 point lead but went down 25-14.

The Ladies B started things rolling when lady of the match Molly Pywell (16.00) won 3-2. Barbara Bradley (14.07) lost 3-0, Pat A Smith (11.93) won 3-0 but Jean Atkinson (15.74) lost 3-0 and Rhonda Page (14.92) suffered a 3-2 setback. Claire Stainsby (15.99) won 3-0 to level the score at 3-3. For the Men's B team it was just one of those days when nothing went right, missing numerous doubles while the home side were on the mark, Cleveland losing the first five matches. Paul Winspear (22.53) lost 3-1, Mick Hornsey (23.49) 3-0, Carl Smith (21.45) 3-1, Makhan Chahal (20.27) 3-2 and Andy Huskinson (20.35) 3-0. Man of the match Mark Muckian (24.64) won 3-1 and Charlie Copeland (23.92) 3-1, Rob Grundy (22.23) lost 3-2, Jim Bannister (21.47) won 3-0 to gain Cleveland's third point but that was it. 3-0, giving the home team a 9-3 win and an overnight 12-6 lead. The Ladies A got Cleveland off to a good Sunday start. Vee Page (16.49) won 3-2 and lady of the match Julie Sorby (19.78) won 3-0. Pat J Smith (13.56) lost 3-1 (double trouble) while Jackie Allison (17.08) won 3-0. Jean Hagan (15.19) lost 3-0 but then Babs Evans (18.08) won 3-1 to make the final score 4-2. and reduce the arrears to four points. The Men's A team also made a poor start. Glen Durrant (25.19) lost 3-0, Joe Nicholson (21.66) 3-2 and Glenn Moody (25.47) lost 3-0. Brian Boulton (21.03) won 3-2 to pull one back but then Phil MacKay (23.62) lost 3-1. Team captain Gary Stephens (22.58) won 3-2 to make the interval score 4-2 to the home side. Things didn't get any better as Col Johnson (21.82) lost 3-2, Chris Hornby (23.35) lost 3-1, Terry Ferguson (23.42) 3-1 and Kenny Dobson (20.84) went down 3-1. Mark Eccles (26.68) won 3-1 and man of the match Simon Craven (26.94) won 3-1 to make the final score 8-4 and overall a loss of 25-14 points.

There were mixed emotions for Gillian Thompson of Crook Mill House in the match at Crook Coach and Horses.

She was delighted to be the first player in the league this season to hear the magic cry of '180' but then disappointed to see her team lose by three points.

However, the Mill House still hold a 13 point lead over Crook Three Blue Bells who are 19 points ahead of the Royal Sun.
