RESTRICTIONS on a city's footpaths have been lifted to allow a religious walk to take place this weekend.
The cross-bearing to the top of Tunstall Hill, in Sunderland, seemed to be at risk for the first time in 36 years.
However, the walking ban on Tunstall Hills has been lifted by Sunderland City Council.
It is one of the activities possible as the 160km of footpaths which were closed in the city have been reduced to 48km, after applying new guidelines.
Environmental health officer Norma Johnston said: "I would urge the public to look out for new signs and to take heed of all the advice that help us to protect our animals, while enjoying the countryside."
