AN adventurer is preparing for the trek of a lifetime - at the age of 72.
Globetrotting John Hassan, of Mackie Drive, Guisborough, east Cleveland, is taking part in the trek through the Himalayas, as part of a trip organised by the British Heart Foundation, and believes age will be no barrier.
It will take Mr Hasson from Kathmandu up to Pokhara, through the Himalayas and end up 1,000 feet below the base camp of Annapurna.
It means that he will see most of the mountains in the range and experience two ridges during the 60-mile trek.
Mr Hasson says he will probably not need to do as much training as some of his younger colleagues, because he is already a fit and healthy walker.
He helps youngsters in his Guisborough to prepare for their own expeditions, as part of the Duke of Edinburgh Award Scheme.
It is the second time Mr Hasson has taken part in a trip of this kind - a few years ago he took part in a trek through the Atlas Mountains on behalf of Cancer Research.
The walk does not take place until November, but he has to raise at least £2,600 to take part, and has set his sights on a £3,000 target.
The grandfather-of-three said he is quite keen to support the heart foundation as he has already seen a couple of his friends suffering from heart problems.
"I think it is a very good thing and at least the charity is for the benefit of people in this country," he said.
Anyone who would like to sponsor Mr Hasson can call him on (01287) 634462.
