A MAJOR development site which promises to create over 570 jobs has been given outline planning permission.

The £14m Maingate scheme, planned by UK Land Estates at Team Valley Business Estate, Gateshead, covers 52,000sq ft and will deliver a mix of offices, hotel, retail and leisure in contemporary design.

Maingate is strategically located at the Northern gateway to Team Valley next to the A1, just ten minutes drive south of Newcastle city centre.

UK Land Estates senior development surveyor Gary Hudson said: "The success of Team Valley as the North-East's premier business location, with over six million square feet of accommodation, is largely attributed to the mix of commerce within the estate.

"There are more than 17,000 people employed within 736 businesses, with additional daily visitors in Team Valley.

"However, there remains a substantial shortage of the modern services normally associated with a business location of this size."

To serve the catchment area, Maingate will provide a luxury 100-bed hotel, 65,000sq ft of office space, retail premises of up to 35,500sq ft, restaurants of up to 6,135sq ft and a leisure facility of 25,000sq ft.
