Schools in Redcar have joined up with their council and a fast food chain to clean up a town's image.

Youngsters from St Dominic's, the Lakes and Zetland primary schools have designed posters with a tidy-up message for ten new litter bins which burger chain, McDonald's, handed over to Redcar and Cleveland Council via the Mayor, Councillor Arthur Dobson.

The children are to muck-in themselves with a litter pick later this month.

Coun Dobson said: "We want to encourage tidy habits among children and we are delighted with their own efforts and McDonald's for their sponsorship.''

Marian Harrison, regional director for the Tidy Britain Group in the North-East, said: "I'm delighted that the council is working in partnership with local schools and McDonald's to reduce litter.

"The Just Bin It campaign, which replaces the well known National Spring Clean, urges people not to drop litter in the first place as well as encouraging clean-ups.''
