Two quick first half strikes condemned Darlington to their first defeat in eight games at the Withdean Stadium this afternoon.
Goals from Richard Carpenter (28) and prolific marksman Bobby Zamora (29) handed the Seagulls all three points to boost their chances of going up as Third Division champions having already sealed promotion at the weekend.
The Quakers very rarely tested Michel Kuipers in the Brighton goal and the home side showed why they've lost just twice at home this season.
Boss Gary Bennett introduced Brightwell, Hjorth and Jackson in the second half which made little difference against a side thoroughly worth their victory.
