A STUDENT will mix community work with adventure when she travels to Kenya this summer.

Jenny Arrand, 20, from Sutton-under-Whitestonecliffe, near Thirsk, is studying physics at Cambridge University, and will take part in a three-week trip with the Dorset Expeditionary Society in July.

But she needs to raise £1,250 to pay her travelling expenses and to go towards work on the half-built Baragu health centre and Katharaka primary school in the South Meru district.

Builders will travel with the group to work at the health centre, and they will be helped by Jenny and other members, who will also decorate the school.

The trip will also involve climbing the 16,000ft Mount Kenya, white water rafting on the Tana River, and a camping safari in the Maasai Mara game reserve.

To raise funds, she is doing a sponsored swim when she returns to Cambridge after Easter.

Anyone wanting to sponsor Jenny, or to donate equipment for the work involved, can ring her mother Pat Arrand on (01845) 597547.
