A NIGHTSPOT is changing its name as part of a £1m refurbishment.
The Top Hat in Spennymoor, County Durham, will relaunch as Cube, when it opens later this year.
In the 1960s, the club regularly drew large crowds to hear headline bands, such as Thin Lizzy and Hot Chocolate, play live.
And bosses at the revamped club hope it will now attract some of the country's biggest DJs, including Pete Tong and Danny Rampling.
The upstairs nightclub, which has a licence for 650 people, is being completely refurbished.
On the ground floor, the front of the building will be transformed into an upmarket, glass-fronted continental cafe bar, which will be open during the day for light snacks and form part of the club at night.
Colin Fletcher, club manager, said: "The new name represents exactly the image we are aiming for.
"It is sharp and modern and at the cutting edge of the entertainment business.
