ROMAN Shower Enclosures is expanding with the opening of a big extension to its site at Aycliffe Industrial Park.
The £1.5m project is on a three-acre site next to the existing factory, and should bring an additional 50 staff to the workforce of 90 in the next three years.
The new factory has been funded with help from grants from the DTI and Durham County Council.
The extension will treble the company's factory space and revolutionise the firm's manufacturing processes. Modern assembly lines will be introduced, using fewer specialist production teams.
David Osborne, marketing director, said: "We needed to increase the capacity and to do that we have had to massively increase the space. It will totally change the way in which our products are manufactured."
The new factory is expected to be fully operational in June with construction already under way
