BUSINESS is booming at the Innovation Centre on Kirk-leatham Business Park, near Redcar.
It already has 17 firms in residence, employing 99 people, and hopes are high that occupancy levels will be approaching 100 per cent when the £2.4m facility celebrates its first anniversary in September.
The purpose-built centre is run by UK Steel Enterprise, a wholly-owned subsidiary of Corus, and has been created by a funding package involving the company, Redcar and Cleveland Borough Council, the regional development agency, One NorthEast, together with the European Regional Development Fund.
The centre has a mix of office and workshop accommodation, backed up by secure car parking, high-tech meeting rooms, a laser security system and a private gym and sauna for its tenants.
Businesses range from relocations, new starters and hi-tech, with specialisations covering software development, a soil-sampling laboratory, online learning and engineering.
Simon Hamilton, UK Steel Enterprise's regional executive for the North of England, said: "Already we've exceeded our original targets. We hope to be near capacity within the next few months."
UK Steel Enterprise aims to provide help for small to medium sized businesses and an environment for businesses to grow.
