THREE North-East attractions have been awarded grants as part of Museums and Galleries Month.
English Heritage's Berwick Gymnasium Gallery, Killhope North of England Lead Mining Museum, at Cowshill, County Durham, and Old Fulling Mill Museum of Archaeology, at Durham, have each received grants of about £500.
Funding for the total of 36 grants around England has come from the Department of Education and Employment, which awarded £20,000 to Museums and Galleries Month 2001 (MGM) for a programme of special projects working with local schools.
Christopher Naylor, director of Engage, the joint organisers of MGM said: "The MGM projects funded through this Schools Partnership Programme are aimed at Key Stage 3 pupils.
"This age group often misses out on stimulating experiences on offer to younger age groups, and this programme aims to encourage all museums and galleries to do more for Key Stage 3 pupils."
MGM takes place from May 1 to June 3, involving 1,500 museums and galleries around the UK.
