A MAN, woman and a child were taken to hospital after waking to find their home in flames yesterday.
They were not seriously hurt but were taken to hospital in Durham suffering from smoke inhalation in the blaze, at Dorset Crescent, Moorside, Consett.
The man also had injuries to his feet where he tried to stamp out the flames after being awoken by the fire at about 3.45am.
Police believe the fire may have been started by a candle left alight in the couple's bedroom.
Inspector Kevin Weetman, of Derwentside police said that more details were not available but took the opportunity to warn people to be careful with candles.
He said: "It appears that the quilt caught alight from a candle and it was lucky no one was seriously hurt."
