VICTIMS of crime, pensioners and schoolchildren are among the latest beneficiaries of charity grants.
Good causes throughout the Tees Valley will share in more than £58,000 from the Cleveland Community Foundation. As one of 39 groups to benefit, the Teesside Victim Support and Witness Service gains £2,500 to set up a new area operation.
The Cleveland branch of the Motor Neurone Disease Association receives £1,500 towards a power wheelchair, and the Old People's Welfare Hall, in Thornaby, secures £1,500 towards refurbishment costs.
Other major grants go to Relate North East to help train counsellors and Cromwell Road Primary School, in South Bank, which runs a week-long summer school.
Foundation chairman Tony Gillham said: "The aim of the Cleveland Community Foundation is simple - to achieve a radical improvement in the quality of life of the disadvantaged in the Tees Valley. In the past year, we have increased our endowment fund so that it stands at more than £5m. The benefit of the grants has been apparent over the entire area."
