STAFF at Nissan have helped save lives by giving blood.
Blood donors are needed constantly, and demand can range from two units for a hip replacement to 700 units for long-term treatment of a serious crash victim.
Only six per cent of eligible people donate blood - but at the Sunderland car factory, 136 staff attended a recent blood donor session.
Kevin Owens, who works in Nissan's central control room, said: "I give blood because it's such a worthwhile cause."
He added: "Giving blood is painless, and it's a nice feeling to think that this small, selfless act is going to save or improve someone's life."
