A FORMER professional soldier has taken over as fitness manager of a North-East health club.
Tony Harwood, from West Rainton, near Durham City, was in the Army for nine years and gained extensive experience and qualifications in six years as a physical training instructor.
The 36-year-old has been appointed to the post at the SpringHealth Leisure Club in Kingston Springs, Newcastle.
Springs, which began in Low Fell, near Gateshead, merged with another company to form SpringHealth Leisure plc.
Mr Harwood joined the Army at 16 and served in the Falklands, Germany, Belgium, France and Norway.
He has a diploma in business studies, an HND in sport and recreation management and several teaching qualifications.
Before joining Springs, he worked at the Mill House Leisure Centre in Hartlepool.
