Redcar and Cleveland residents have been invited to have their say on proposals which could change the way the borough council operates.
A leaflet setting out three options the council can adopt for the future running of the authority are being distributed throughout the borough.
While staff at Redcar and Cleveland Borough Council have already received a good response to a leaflet, distribution difficulties have meant that the deadline for returning responses has been extended to April 25.
Coun Dave McLuckie, chairman of the council's political structures working party explained that the new system will make decision-making more effective and efficient, and give people a clearer idea of who takes the decisions.
"We think it's vital that the local community has an input because we need to know which option they think will best suit the needs of our area," he said. "That's why we decided to send a leaflet to households throughout the borough, setting out the choices and asking for people's views."
Completed questionnaires can be returned directly to the Town Hall or to local libraries.
