DURHAM Jail plans to double the production of hand-crafted football goal nets made by inmates.
About 40 prisoners in the high security jail make 750 nets a year for customers including Premiership clubs Sunderland and Leeds.
The business is growing and now the jail has won a contract to supply soccer teams in the US.
Inmates originally made camouflage nets for the Ministry of Defence, but started making Sunderland goal nets with the club's name on them.
Head of industries at the jail, Dave Whitfield, said: "We always tell them what team's net they are making and they can't wait to tell their families to watch Match of the Day so they can see the net they have made.
"That can be the first time that the lad has had anything to be proud of."
The jail has already produced nets, featuring teams logos, for US university sides.
