TRIBUTES have been paid to a councillor and former publican who has died.
Bob Wood was Conservative councillor for Stockton's Fairfield ward.
The 74-year-old entered local government in 1995, as Stockton prepared to become a unitary authority.
Before entering local politics, Councillor Wood was a publican at the Wheatsheaf in Darlington. He was also a magistrate in Teesside and was a strong believer in law and order.
Councillor Stephen Smailes, leader of the Stockton Conservative group, said Coun Wood will be missed by all members of the council.
"He would always take the side of the underdog," he said.
