ABANDONED greyhounds have caused a headache for an animal charity - and given Pat Smith a full house.
Eight greyhounds are roaming Ms Smith's home, six of them permanent guests, and the other two waiting to go to foster homes.
Ms Smith, of Newby, between Middlesbrough and Stokesley, said: "After they have been raced, a lot of them are put to sleep. Once they start to cost money and they're not bringing anything in, people don't want to know.
"They're also seen as big dogs that need a lot of exercise, but they're quite lazy really and don't take much looking after."
Ms Smith is a volunteer at Saltburn Animal Rescue Association (Sara), which is raising money to build a sanctuary for cats and dogs.
Sara has raised about £30,000 towards the estimated £200,000 it will need. It is running a sale at Cobwebs bric-a-brac store, Northallerton, North Yorkshire, on Saturday, May 5
