ONE of the leaders of North Yorkshire's long battle of the pylons is now standing for public office.
Professor Mike O'Carroll is chairman of Revolt, the campaign group that has been fighting against the National Grid's plan to erect giant pylons through the heart of the county.
The father-of-four, from Welbury, near Northallerton, is to stand as an independent candidate for the Appleton Wiske division in the county council elections.
However, despite his role with Revolt he has insisted that he will not be standing as a single-issue candidate.
