A POLICE blitz has revealed that the message not to drink and drive seems to be getting through.
More than 100 drivers were breath-tested throughout the Cleveland Police area, during last Friday's European-wide campaign. The 24-hour push involved a team of ten officers targeting different locations as part of an annual initiative.
They were delighted when only one out of 109 drivers breathalysed provided a positive test.
Inspector Mick Bennett said: "This is a very encouraging result and is well below the average figure of three per cent for those who normally provide positive breath tests. I hope that the advanced publicity linked with police activity on the day persuaded drivers that it was simply not worth the risk to go out on our roads after consuming alcohol."
Tests will continue as part of a policy on dealing with potential drink drivers.
