THE first person to benefit from a scheme for the elderly is delighted with her new man about the house.
Mavis Perkins, of Redcar, is enjoying the rewards of a partnership between Redcar and Cleveland Council, Age Concern Teesside and Transmore van hire.
The Handyman scheme operates throughout Redcar and Cleveland and provides help for anyone with social care needs.
Jenny Shephard, assistant director of social services, said: "The purpose of this scheme is to promote independent living and reduce accidents, thus improving the quality of life for older people."
The scheme is funded through the council's prevention grant, and anyone who is assessed as having community care needs can use the service.
