BULLDOZERS made their final visit to a Darlington housing estate yesterday, to complete the demolition of more than 300 homes.
In the past 18 months, the houses on the Firthmoor estate have been demolished to prepare for a multi-million pound regeneration scheme.
In addition to money from the Government's Single Regeneration Budget, more than £2m has been secured to build a primary school at the centre of the estate. Plans are also being drawn up for a community centre.
Bill Cook, chairman of the Community Partnership Board, said: "The final clearance marks not the end but the beginning of a bright new future for the estate.
"The residents have lived through a period of upheaval and change, and can now start looking forward to Firthmoor as a place where they will want to live an enjoy life."
