ONE of the Aycliffe Angels was joined by her family ahead of her 100th birthday with the traditional message from the Queen, yesterday.
Dora Baron now lives at Nightingale Hall, Richmond, North Yorkshire, close to daughter, Jean, and her husband Philip.
But some across the region may still remember her from the munitions factory at Newton Aycliffe, where she worked during the Second World War.
After the fighting was over Dora became the stewardess at Darlington Cricket Club, working there with her husband until retiring, aged 73.
Dora was widowed in 1964 but cards were flooding in at Nightingale Hall, where staff describe Dora as "forthright".
Daughter, Jean, said: "She's still has her sense of humour and can certainly make me laugh."
Joining her today will be Jean and Philip's son, Keith, who now lives in Hereford as well as Dora's three great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild
