A large-scale production of Pushkin's epic Russian play Boris Godunov will receive its UK premiere in the North-East.
It was created by a non-Russian team in Moscow last year on a 20m catwalk stage at the Moscow Arts Gorky Theatre, featuring 18 leading actors from the city's leading theatre companies.
Now the production will be seen at Newcastle Playhouse from May 9 to 12, as part of a short UK tour.
Director Declan Donnellan and designer Nick Ormerod, from the Cheek By Jowl theatre company, previously worked with Russian actors on a production of The Winter's Tale with the Maly Theatre of St Petersburg.
