RESIDENTS are being urged to protect their area's natural beauty by keeping beaches, parks and other open spaces clean and tidy.
The appeal in Hartlepool is the latest phase of the town's Spring Clean, aimed to make it a more attractive place to live and work.
This month, the council has organised initiatives to tackle litter, dog fouling and fly-tipping.
In the latest phase of the Spring Clean, council officials want to promote "clean fun" by stressing the importance of recreational areas being kept clean and safe.
Environment chief Denise Ogden said: "With the summer approaching more people are looking to venture outdoors.
"We want to ensure attractions like our beaches are clean, safe and welcoming to visitors. While litter looks unsightly it can be extremely dangerous in the case of items like broken bottles and dog dirt poses a serious health risk.
