EUROPEAN trophy success could be the first of many for an under-18 football team who continue on the winning trail, writes HELEN MILLER.
Last weekend Crook Town Under-18 football team, pictured, notched up another win against West Auckland to take them to the finals of the Lady Eden Cup. They won 9-0 in the match at Tow Law, on Saturday.
The victory comes soon after the team returned from Den Bosch, Holland, beating sides from Germany, Denmark, Scotland and France, to clinch the European championship's Brabant Cup.
They were also presented with the Fair Play Cup for the most sporting team in the event.
Proud manager, Billy Horn, said: "Winning abroad has been an absolutely fantastic achievement. We only let in one goal throughout the two days we played."
As well the Lady Eden Cup, the team is set for a Durham County Cup final clash and if they win the rest of their league games they will be champions of the Auckland and District Ebac Youth League.
Mr Horn said: "My lasting memories of this season is the way we played in the FA Youth Cup. We played against top class opposition and made it through to the first round when we were beaten by Oldham Athletic."
