Chester-le-Street Town Juniors

The Under-17s ensured their season didn't end trophy-less when they beat County Cup finalists South Shields in the New County League Cup final at Moor Park.

The game was not a classic and the under-strength Cestrians battled hard to try and break down a well-organised and resolute Shields rearguard.

David Lowther went close on a couple of occasions for Shields as did Darren Henderson and Craig Patterson at the other end. With the scores level at 90 minutes, the match went into extra-time and the deadlock was eventually broken by Chester-le-Street forward Patterson in the first period when he headed his 23rd goal of the season from David Hope's fine right wing cross. Mark Middlemass in the Chester goal immediately made a superb save from the head of Lowther as Shields sought an equaliser. In the second period of extra-time Shields tried to force the issue but Chester held firm and could have scored again with the last chance of the game when captain Dean Grayson, clear on goal, shot wide of the target. Craig Marley was the Chester-le-Street man of the match.

Blackfyne

The Under-17s squandered a 4-1 half-time lead against Sandhole in a midweek New County Youth League game, Sandhole fighting back to draw 4-4. Blackfyne goals came from Karl Muirhead (2), Dean Leighley and James Parkin with Andrew Gailes getting man of the match for Blackfyne. The Under-11s won a midweek game beating Leam Rangers B 6-3 in the A and C Kelly Gateshead Youth League. Scorers were Dean Malpass, Ben Pearson, and Connal Reed (4) which also gave him the man of the match award. Even better was to follow a few days later when the Under-11s played Leam Rangers A in the League Cup final at East Stanley. Despite going in at half-time 2-0 down they gave an excellent second-half performance to lift the cup with a 3-2 win. Blackfyne scorers were Connal Reed, and Ben Pearson (2), this performance from Ben also saw him picked as man of the match.

The tens played twice over the weekend in the Apollo Doors Mini-League, losing the first 3-0 to Chopwell but bounced back to defeat Cleveland Hal B 7-1,with goals from Danny Walker (2), Andrew Rennodson and Steven Shaw (4) who also claimed the man of the match award.

Coxhoe Boys

Defeat by rivals Seaham Parkside has cost Coxhoe the chance of winning the Under-12 title in the Russell Foster Tyne and Wear Youth League - but they can still take the runners-up spot.

Coxhoe, who believe they deserved a draw, led 1-0 thanks to a Lee Soppitt goal against Parkside but conceded two goals in the final ten minutes of a very entertaining game played last Friday. However, Coxhoe did not play well against bottom team Seaham Red Star on Sunday, held 2-2 after taking a two-goal lead after five minutes through Carl Sanderson and Tom Orton. Coxhoe have three games in which to clinch the runners-up spot - including the return with Parkside.

Results, Under-10s - Russell Foster Tyne and Wear Small-Sided Youth League: Coxhoe 2 (G Cairns, A Strong), Pennywell 0; Shildon Juniors 1, Coxhoe 3 (J Salkeld 2, A Strong).
