RUNNERS are being asked to follow the example of one woman and raise money for cancer research.
Sue Waters, 38, of Yarm, Teesside, has signed up for this year's Great North Run and is collecting sponsorship money for the Cancer Research Campaign.
Sue will pound the streets from Newcastle to South Shields in September, to raise money for research into the prevention, treatment and cure of cancer.
She said: "The Great North Run is something that inspired me as it is not your average every day event.
"It is something you have to work towards although, admittedly, I have been leaving the training until after my holidays.
"A very close friend of mine died at 25 from cancer and my aunt has recently been diagnosed with breast cancer, so the cause is very close to my heart.
"I want to know that I have done my bit to raise awareness and money to help find new cures and better treatments for cancer."
Last year, more than £65,000 was raised for the campaign by the Great North Run.
Anyone who would like to take part for the charity this year is asked to call (01937) 588855 to claim a free running vest and sponsorship forms.
