HURWORTH Primary School is planning a new information and communication technology (ITC) room.

It will be a conservatory-style building, behind the Westfield Hall.

The building will cost £14,000 plus another £6,000 to cover the cost of the computers and equipment.

Parents of the pupils have been asked to donate £10 each for their children in the school. Funding is on target, but any contributions would still be gratefully received, because the school is hoping to receive up to £2,500 from parents.

The information and communication technology suite will contain 20 personal computers (PCs) controlled by a master computer, so that a teacher can control all other computers by a process called link networking.

A whole class will have a chance to use the PCs each week.

In the evening, there will be courses for the parents, so they will be able to help and work with their children.

We think that it is fair that parents get to use the computers as well as the children.

Building work will hopefully take five to six weeks, and pupils should be able to use the computers by June.

The headteacher, Trevor Drury, is awaiting planning permission before building can go ahead
