A HOUSING estate has been given its own security force.
Three neighbourhood wardens have been appointed to keep an eye on the 516 homes on Middlesbrough's Saltersgill estate.
The two men and one woman, who will work shifts covering the area until 10pm, will be supported by a retired inspector with Cleveland Police, Mike Whitfield, who works with the Safe in Tees Valley anti-crime organisation.
The setting up of the warden scheme follows a survey of residents, which underlined concerns about burglary and personal safety.
The wardens, who have received one month's training, will work to build community confidence, reduce crime, deter anti-social behaviour and work with and support families and youngsters on the estate.
A £70,000 government grant has made the £140,000 warden scheme possible.
