SIX cars were raided in less than four hours in Darlington, when motorists left handbags and wallets in clear view for thieves, say police.
Detective Sergeant Alec Francis, of Darlington police, said people need to be more careful when leaving their vehicles.
The thefts came two days after comedian Norman Pace helped the town's force launch a scheme highlighting exactly this sort of carelessness.
In Brunel Way, a shoulder bag was stolen from a car, while, in Windermere Court, a wallet and driving licence were taken. In Neasham Road, a black handbag was stolen, and a black satchel was taken from in Westmoor Road. All four thefts were between 2.30pm and 6.15pm on Thursday.
Handbags were taken from cars in Albert Hill and Warkworth Way between 5.40pm and 5.42pm.
Det Sgt Francis said: "Even if you leave a car for a moment, you must stop to remove everything from display."
Anyone with information about any of the thefts can contact Darlington police on (01325) 467681, or Crimestoppers on 0800 555111
