The Magpies' extended wait for a clean sheet ended this afternoon when they took all three points against a Leicester side clearly low on confidence.
Manager Bobby Robson was absent on club business but he would have been delighted to see the unwanted run end.
But it was Leicester keeper Tim Flowers who took the plaudits with a superb display and it took the fourth minute of stoppage time for Newcastle to breach his defence.
The former England stopper pulled off great saves from Kevin Gallacher and Gary Speed but it was a one handed tip on to the bar from Nikos Dabizas which was the pick of the bunch.
But when it seemed he had done enough to guarentee an end to the Foxes' nine game losing streak, Carl Cort's deflected effort ruined both his and Peter Taylor's day.
