BUS passengers stepped back in time on a special trip to raise money for the Butterwick's Children Hospice.

The Teesside bus-interest group, 500 Group, offered people the chance to take a nostalgic ride yesterday on one of seven restored vintage buses which operated in the area in the 1960s and 1970s.

Services ran all day from the Transporter Bridge, in Middlesbrough.

For a small donation to the hospice, passengers were able to get a day pass to travel on a variety of routes.

The buses brought out of retirement included a 1958 Middlesbrough Corporation open-back, double-decker, and a former Northern General Routemaster.

Bus companies Arriva North-East and Stagecoach North-East supported the event by displaying their latest low-floor buses and providing rides on a Stagecoach Transit open-top 1964 Leyland National Bus.

More buses were on display at the Transporter Bridge Visitors' Centre, where passengers could also buy memorabilia.
