A GROUP of adventurous fundraisers broke out of jail and went on the run in aid of charity.
Ten teams of two convicts escaped from Durham as part of ChildLine's Great Escape challenge and are attempting to get as far away as possible in 24 hours.
The convicts, dressed in distinctive uniforms and joined by fake shackles, are not allowed to spend any money on travel and are relying on the help of family, friends and the public to help them reach their destination.
Six teams from Leeds are making their bid for freedom at the same time.
ChildLine fundraising organiser Sylvia Stoneham said: "The Great Escape is going to be a truly unforgettable experience.
"I hope that some escape teams will even manage to get abroad, but wherever they end up and however they get there, every escape team will help ChildLine Yorkshire and North East."
